Update on the leg...

Kaelynn is doing pretty well. She has no desire to walk on it, and has been very content to sit on the couch and be waited on. She has had plenty of practice of being a true princess. I'm not sure she's going to want to go back :) We went to the doctor today and he said a cast wasn't necessary. The fracture is pretty thin, so he thought splinting it well would work fine. They redid the splint so it covers more of the top of her leg. She will wear this for 3 weeks. She doesn't complain about it hurting too much except when we move her to get her in a different position or to bring her to the bathroom. We had her in diapers for 2 days and decided that she needed to go back to underwear so she didn't get to used to the convenience again. So far she has done well. We will take it easy for the next few days and will see if we can get her to walk a little on it soon. We won't push her, but we know that if we don't have her try it, she probably won't do it on her own. We'll see!!! I had to go out and buy her some more stretchy pants as she is not able to wear jeans. Thankfully all the stores are clearancing out their sweatpants and winter items. Grandpa and Grandma from ND sent her these beautiful princess balloons. She was very excited about them!!!
Thank you to all who have called and prayed for her. We truly appreciate the love and support we have felt!!!

Broken Leg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first Kvernen child to break a bone is our little lady. She was walking to the van last night and there was snow on the garage floor and she fell! I didn't see her fall, but boy did I hear her scream. There was no swelling so, I still took her to the lady who watches them for me when I go to choir and told her to call me if she doesn't seem to get any better. I got a phone call from her at 7:45pm and we ended up going to the emergency room. After a 2 1/2 hour stay there and 2 X-ray sessions they discovered that her right tibia has a spiral fracture. It was pretty good sized too! She has a splint on until we can get in to see the orthopedic specialist at which point she will receive a cast. It sounds like she will have that on for a number of weeks!!!!! Oh joy!!! She will be confined to the couch for the weekend at least and possibly longer. It was heart wrenching to see our little girl in so much pain. Please pray that she will be okay with staying off of it. And that we will be creative in the things we are able to entertain her with as she lies on the couch for 5 days!!! I have a feeling it will be a movie marathon weekend!!!!

Our little lady

Kaelynn has changed in many ways this week and it seems that she is becoming quite the little lady! She is now officially potty-trained. YEAH!!!! We are 98% free of diapers. I say 98% because she it still wearing one at night. I can't tell you how good it feels after buying diapers for 5 1/2 years ot be diaper-free. I know there are many families that buy them for many more years than that, but thankfully we're not one of them :) She has also matured a ton in the past week. She isn't having as many fits and seems to handle herself very well when something doesn't go her way. She wants to help me with all the household chores. She dusted for me and helped me make the bed today! She loves to pick out her clothes in the morning and does a pretty good job at matching them. She talks like a 10 year old and you can have a very normal conversation with her. She almost talks better than her borthers! She loves to pray to Jesus and to sing songs to Him. She was sitting on daddy's lap yesterday and they were both raising their hands to worship Jesus while singing along to "Hosanna" by Brooke Frasier. She is a beautiful little girl and we are loving this stage she is in! (This is a Chinese outfit grandma sent!)

Carson's exciting moment!!!

Carson has accepted Jesus into his heart!!! He walked into my bedroom after lunch and said, "Mommy, I want to do what Connor did." We have talked to him a few times in the past few weeks about making this decision, but he hasn't been ready to. Probing a little, I asked what he was talking about and he said he wanted to have Jesus come into his heart. I asked him a few more questions to make sure he understood the decision he was making and he said he still wanted to. We prayed together and he repeated after me. He now has Jesus living in him!!! He was so excited afterward that he was bouncing around the room. The smile on his face was about a mile wide. What an incredible blessing to be able to be with both of my son's at that moment. This morning I was really dreading today- the kids are home from school again and it started out with a lot of fighting and whining. Kaelynn is potty-training (she's doing very well!!!) and the kids had not slept real well all weekend because they were all sleeping in the same room. Andy prayed for me before he left that God would bless me today. Boy, did He ever!!!! I am amazed by His goodness!!! On more party in Heaven today- and in the Kvernen house!!!

A weekend with grandma

We had a great weekend with grandma from Mpls. She came down Friday and we got to play lots of games and read books. On Saturday we took a trip to Target and they each got to pick out something special. The boys picked out these knight sets. They have provided hours of entertainment!!!
On Saturday afternoon we went bowling for the first time with the kids. They had a blast and did very well. We of course had the bumpers up, which even daddy needed a couple of times :)
You'll have to look at the videos at the end of the post.
For lunch on Sunday afternoon we went to the new Japanese steak house in town. The food is very similar to Benihanna's in Mpls and they cook it in front of you. They put on a great show. Kaelynn was pretty scared of the fire at the beginning, but she got over it pretty quickly.
The kids practiced their skills of eating with chopsticks in preparation of the real thing someday when we visit Matt and Laura and family in East Asia!
Connor is a somewhat picky eater and decided to have chicken nuggets and french fries for lunch. He mastered eating his french fries with the chopsticks though!
We had a great weekend! Thanks for coming grandma!!!!

1/2 birthday put on hold....

Winter is a season created by God! And all things created by God are good!!! I had to remind myself of that when for the third time this week weather cancelled school for my children :) The bummer about them not going today was that they were supposed to bring cupcakes to celebrate their 1/2 birthday with their class. It seems to me that this happened last year too!!!! They have been so excited all week to make frog cupcakes which they picked out on familyfun.com. The boys did a great job decorating them last night and went to bed so excited to bring them to school. They took the news this morning pretty well. In fact Carson said, "I knew that would happen." Hopefully they will freeze well and they'll bring them on Tuesday. (They don't have school Monday because of Martin Luther King Jr. day.) Happy 1/2 Birthday buddies!!

Socks...???

Every mother can relate to this blog entry:) Remember the rhyme, "Button, button, whose got the button?" Well during the winter at our house it goes, "Sock, sock, whose got the sock?" We have a missing sock problem at our house. It's no wonder when all three of our children walk around with just one sock on! It's very strange to me!!!!!!!! So... we had some free time today and decided to make sock puppets with the lonely socks. They were pretty basic ones as the attention span of our 5 and 2 year olds were pretty short this afternoon. They had fun picking out the buttons and color of thread. I tried to be creative with hair and accessories, but they didn't work out. I guess simpler is better in the world of a preschooler!!!

No More Monkeys

All three of our children latched onto the Five Little Monkeys books at a young age. It's an easy book to memorize and it is often heard at various points of the day throughout our house. We had videoed the boys saying in back in March 2006- they were 2 years and 8 months. We just recently taped Kaelynn saying it at 2 years 9 months. It's pretty funny to see the difference! It's also hard to remember the boys this small!!! Enjoy!
