Our fearless daughter

Our bedtime routine includes reading three books, brushing teeth, (We have a new trick to get them to brush long enough- we sing the alphabet song through twice. They can't spit it out until we are done and if someone stops brushing, the song stops too until the brushing is resumed. It's worked well so far :) ), and for Kaelynn climbing the ladder onto the top bunk of Connor and Carson's bunkbed (all by herself). As she gets done brushing, she runs to the boys' room yelling "climb da ladder, climb da ladder!!!" Here's a video of it:

We've had a good weekend, Andy took the kids sledding yesterday with a friend and his two kids from church. It was Kaelynn's first time and she loved it. She even went down by herself a couple times. Another example of how she has no fear.

I got pampered yesterday. Our church had a "simple pleasures" day for women. We listened to a nationally known speaker talk about organization for our hearts and our homes. We also got to go to break out sessions of which one was spa treatments- I got a paraphin wax hand treatment and my makeup done. I even won two door prizes and got some very expensive eye lotion from the spa that did the treatments. We had lots of great food and had a great time connecting with women I don't normally connect with. It was wonderful!

We are looking forward to a normal week :) Hope you have a good week too!!

I have been redeemed!!!

Yes, we got the cookies done. Not without one tired mommy and two messy boys. I think the finished product will meet the approval of the hungry 3 and 4 year olds tomorrow and will give Connor and Carson a wonderful 1/2 birthday celebration with their friends. It's all worth it for that!!!

The boys got to go to a Cyclone basketball game with daddy on Saturday afternoon. They were interested for a while, then the bribes had to come out- cotton candy and ice cream. The Cyclones won and they did have fun!

The boys have loved the dress up clothes they got for Christmas. Connor loves writing tickets and getting the bad guys in his police officer uniform. Carson likes putting out fires- mostly on boats. It's fun to watch them role play.

Ever wonder how much damage two four year olds and an almost two year old can do in just a few minustes?

Thankfully it doesn't look like that anymore :)

A language all their own

Story telling has been Kaelynn's favorite way to communicate this week. She is usually very articulate about what she says, but this week I have been asking her "What was that?" a lot. She will jabber for about 20 seconds and then add an "and um" and then continue on for another 10 seconds and then add another "and um", and continue on and will finally end with a word she knows. It's pretty humorous. I'll try to get it on video this weekend. Her new favorite song is "Fogger Bogger". You might be saying to yourself, "Hmm, I don't think I know that one." That would be because the actual title is "God our Father"- the prayer song we sing sometimes at meals. Carson was playing with Abby this week and she leaned on his arm and he exclaimed quite loudly, "Ouch, Abby leaned on my blood pressure!" Connor was at the breakfast table studying his sausage quite intently and was trying to figure out how the inside of the sausage was white and the outside of the sausage was brown, but used to be white before it was cooked. Without us giving him any answers, he stated " Mom, this sausage was transformed." Never a dull moment around here!! So, I wrote earlier about Connor and Carson's birthday celebration at school. I had every intention of being the best mom in the world and making frosted sugar cookies with fish on them before Thursday. Those intentions were not fulfilled and I ended up buying cookies at the grocery store bakery. The sad part is they never even got to bring them as we had what we call an "Iowa" snow storm ( 2 inches of snow) and school was cancelled. However, I have a chance to redeem myself as the teacher called today and they will celebrate on Tuesday :) We'll let you know what happens............

Relaxing weekend

We had a very relaxing weekend which was the first in a very long time. Andy and I got to go out on Friday night. It had been a while, so it was a good time to reconnect. Saturday and Sunday were days of lots of playing, wrestling, reading, and football watching :) The kids are loving the kitchen we got Kaelynn for Christmas. Kaelynn's favorite thing to cook is coffee. Carson's is pheasant and fish and Connor will cook whatever we want him to.

One of Kaelynn's favorite activities is to read. We have read a couple of books so many times that she has them memorized. Her new phrase this week is "Oh my, my!!" And when Andy let her know she got sloppy joes on his pants she looked at him and said "Oh well". It was one of those moments where we couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Connor and Carson get to celebrate their half birthdays at school this week - the 17th. We are trying to figure out what treat we will bring- more than likely it will be cupcakes. We'll show you what we decide in a couple of days. Have a great week!

Christmas Tree mystery

The latest mystery in the Kvernen house is where the Christmas tree went. Kaelynn asks "Where did Christmas tree go?" to everyone about 3 times a day. She always gets the same answer, but it hasn't quite registered yet I guess. I think the best part is hearing a 1 year old say Christmas tree. It's pretty funny! Sometimes it ends up having 10 syllables. I included my favorite Christmas picture of her since it is such a hot topic right now.

Here We Go

Hello everyone, We finally jumped on the blog bandwagon. With family all over the world it is a great, easy way to keep in touch. I doubt I will be able to post every day. I will set my sites for once a week and if it happens more than that we will all be pleasantly surprised and not disappointed :) We hope this helps stay in touch a little bit better, but does not take away from phone calls or emails, which we love :) We love you all and look forward to giving you a bit more of an inside look into the Kvernen family life :)
